The instrument without which music could not happen.
Artists more than 700 year ago understood the need for a strong fundament to the music and, after many failed attempts, they managed to devise the first ever instrument to be able to consistently play lower than the human male voice – the church organ.
While an awsome instrument in itself, over the course of the centuries more viable and portable instruments have been created for this purpose, culminating with the double bass in the 18th century and the electric one in the 20th.
Now we simply cannot imagine a world without the soothing and subtle sounds of a good bassist, present in virtually every style of music today. And there’s much more the this instrument than meets the eye. As the great jazz bassist Charles Mingus once said: ‘Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.’ This is precisely the art of the bass player.
At Lycaeum we offer electric and upright bass lessons for both children and adults of all levels and ages. Our teachers design the learning path appropriately according to each student’s needs, so that they will become the bassists they can trully be.
